Saregama Events Present 'Celebrating The Legends'
Saregama proudly presents a magnificent evening that promises to fill the audiences with nostalgia. Roop Kumar Rathod and his charming soul mate Sunali Rathod will be celebrating the legends by paying tribute to some of the most iconic and cherished vocalists from the Indian sub continent, Mohd. Rafi, Lata Mangeshkar, Talat Mahmood and Noor Jehan.
As one of Bollywood's most accomplished artists, Roop Kumar Rathod is known as the voice of Shah Rukh Khan in hit films Veer Zaara ('Tere Liye') and Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi ('Tujhmein Rab Dikhta Hai')as well as a myriad of Bollywood hits including: Anwar (‘Maula Mere Maula’), Border (the award-winning 'Sandese Aate Hain' and 'Toh Chalun'), London Dreams (‘Barson Yaaron’), Pinjar (‘Vatna Ve’), Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein (‘Dil Ko Tumse Pyaar Hua’), Sarfarosh (‘Zindagi Maut Na Ban Jaaye’), Veer (‘Salaam Aya), Agneepath 2012(‘O Saiyaan’) and scores more. Roop Kumar Rathod is also a veteran of ghazal, bhajans, Sufi and light classical genres.
Sunali Rathod trained under Pandit Hridaynath Mangeshkar from the age of ten. She is a star in her own right, having recorded a number of very successful ghazal, classical and pop albums, singing in various languages like Hindi, Gujarati, Marathi, Bengali and Telugu as well as in English. In 2008 Sunali participated with her husband Roop in Mission Ustaad, an Indian musical reality show in which they were crowned with the “Ustaad Jodi’ title.
Accompanied by eight of the finest Indian musicians hand picked by Saregama, Roop and Sunali, the tour will cover some of the most loved songs from the quartet’s vast repertoires, including Rafi classics from films like Chaudhvin Ka Chaand (‘Chaudhvin Ka Chaand’), Baiju Bawra (‘O Duniya Ke Rakhwaale’) Dulari (‘Suhani Raat Dhal Chuki’), Lata classics from Anpadh (‘Aapki Nazron Ne Samjha’), Woh Kaun Thi (‘Lag Ja Gale’), Dil Apna Aur Preet Parai (‘Ajeeb Dastaan Hai Yeh’), Talat classics from Baradari (‘Tasveer Banata Hoon’), Chhaya (‘Itna Na Mujhse Tu Pyar Badha’) and Noor Jehan classics from Dupatta (‘Chaandni Raatein’), and Anmol Ghadi (‘Awaaz De Kahan Hai’).
Also on the programme and back by popular demand will be the couple’s rendition of ‘Madhuban Mein Radhika’, which brought the house down during Saregama’s 2010 sell out An Evening with Roop Kumar and Sunali Rathod tour.
Recognized for their dedication in supporting musical excellence, Saregama Events will once again break barriers by creating a new concept for lovers of music from times gone by. Saregama aims to create a once in a lifetime concert tour.
“The exhilarating response that we got on our UK tour in 2010 has encouraged us to come back to be with our favourite audience one more time. We are completing 100 years of Indian cinema next year. If we try to count the names and pay homage to all those responsible it will take another 100 years. So in my own innovative style I will sing not only my own popular numbers but also gems from the Golden era of Indian cinema.” - Roop Kumar Rathod
“Celebrating the Legends is our grandest project to date and we don't mind being loud and proud about it. We will be honouring some of India’s finest singers and their landmark songs. Roop and Sunali are classically trained musicians and yet commercially successful therefore are the most appropriate choice to pay tribute to these great artists, made especially poignant in the lead up to the one hundredth anniversary of Indian cinema. Roop's silken voice is perfect to do justice to greats like Rafi and Talat, but with a new spin to it, while Sunali’s versatile vocals will evoke memories of Lata and Noor at their peak.” - Amarpal Singh Gaind (Saregama Head of Operations- Europe)
